FEMA and FCC will conduct a Nationwide Emergency Alert System Test today

Harrisburg, PA –

At 2:00 pm ET today the Federal Emergency Management Agency, in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission, will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System. The nationwide test will be on all television and radio stations, satellite television and radio, cable systems and wireline video providers.   The test will not include message to cell phones via the wireless emergency alert system.

The test will last approximately one minute long with only a minor interruption of radio and television programs.  It will evaluate the readiness of the national alerting capability in the event of the loss of internet connectivity. Both the audio message and text crawl should be accessible to people with disabilities.
