As of 12:25 pm today, two lanes of I-78 are now reopened to traffic from an earlier fatal accident at mile marker 60.4 in Upper Saucon Township.  Both eastbound and westbound lanes are open.  State Route 309 Southbound overpass remains closed for bridge inspection by PennDOT.

At 4:46 am while on patrol, Pennsylvania State Troopers came upon a tractor-trailer on I 78 West mile marker 60.4 in Upper Saucon Township.  The vehicle had crashed and was on fire.  The 49 year driver died at the scene. His name has not yet been released.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, the vehicle was travelling eastbound on I-78 at Mile Marker 60.4 and lost control, struck the center median jersey barriers and came to final rest against a pillar that supports the southbound State Route 309 overpass.

This investigation remains open.
