Country music singer, Dolly Parton created the My People Fund following the 2016 wildfire that killed 14 people and destroyed 2,500 homes in her home of Tennessee.
Each volunteer fire department who assisted the victims received $20,000. $40,000 was donated to the county’s training center. All together she donated $200,000.
In addition to the donations, Parton assisted 880 families displaced from the fires and gave them each $10,000, spread out over a six-month period, Billboard reported.
At the 2019 Grammy Awards, Dolly Parton was honored as MusiCares Person of the Year.
