Yesterday it was announced that the Freddy Awards will not be able to present their annual live television special in its usual form.

The Freddy Awards is an annual production in collaboration with  production partner, WFMZ.

With the announcement from Governor Wolf yesterday on the closing of schools for the remainder of the academic year, it will not be possible for them to present this live television special.   They are working with WFMZ to determine what is possible this year.

The FREDDY program is more than a television special.  Many high schools participate in this each year.  With the program’s scholarship and grant program still in place, students are encouraged to go to the FREDDY website for application information.

A message from Shelley Brown, Executive Producer, FREDDY Awards:

The FREDDY program is a celebration of all of the participating high schools , and we know how disappointed the musical-theatre community is. Our hearts break especially for the seniors that have been waiting for this year’s show. We are doing everything we can in this difficult environment to capture the FREDDY spirit in a creative way.
