27-year-old man faces charges in connection to Tuesday morning crash in Northampton County that left another driver dead

L. NAZARETH TWP., Pa. - A man is facing charges for causing a high-speed, head-on crash in Northampton County that left another driver dead and another person seriously hurt, according to authorities.

27-year-old Daneiris Abreu is facing homicide by vehicle, aggravated assault by vehicle, fleeing and attempting to elude officer, and additional charges in connection to the Tuesday morning crash in Lower Nazareth Township.

On Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at approximately 10:26 am a Colonial Regional police officer spotted a 2018 Mercedes-Benz with an expired inspection, according to police paperwork.

The officer observed the Mercedes Benz turn onto Hecktown Road and begin traveling at a high rate of speed.

The officer tried to pull over the car driven by Abreu, on Hecktown Road, but Abreu took off.

The officer said he was going about 80 mph when Abreu was pulling away from him, according to the paperwork.

Officials say Abreu lost control of the car in the 4100 block of Hecktown Road and crossed over the double yellow lines, then slammed into an oncoming car.

Police say the officer caught up to the scene and saw Abreu getting out of the car while his passenger was still trapped inside.

The passenger sustained burns to his legs and other injuries and was admitted to the ICU.

Tragically, 67-year-old Susan Henderson of Norristown, the driver of the other car was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Police say Abreu told officers at the scene that his license was suspended and he "doesn't know why he ran," and he kept saying "look what I did," according to court paperwork.

Abreu was also taken to the hospital.

Investigators found Abreu's New York license is currently suspended, and the expired registration on the Mercedes-Benz was supposed to be on a different car. He also did not have proof of insurance.

Abreu, of the Bronx, was arraigned late Tuesday night, according to online court records and is being held on $300,000 bail.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 16.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and loved ones of Susan Henderson.
