EMMAUS, PA - A bear was spotted in Emmaus Thursday evening.
A WGOLV contributor wrote in stating that this guy passed his front door camera at approximately 1:08 a.m., according to the timestamp on the video.
He lives up on the mountain off of Chestnut Hill Road on the Emmaus side, he said. He's at the corner of Chestnut Hill Road and Stoneridge.
He also stated that the bear disrupted the bird feeders and trash cans of the neighbor.
If you see a bear in your neighborhood, do not approach it. Be aware of your surroundings and monitor small children and pets.. Do not offer food to the bear.
Most black bears will appear in backyards looking for food. They have an excellent sense of smell. A black bear can eat just about anything - even pet food.
Refrain from storing household garbage outside. They are drawn to that and also love birdseed and suet. Both contain lots of protein and fat.
It's recommended that feeders be taken down at night. Even uneaten food that collects below feeders should be cleaned up.
As long as the bear shows no signs of aggression, the Game Commission recommends leaving it alone. It will eventually move out of the area.
