SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. — Blue Mountain School District (BMSD) High School remained open Friday despite several online posts that allegedly referenced a potential school shooting.
According to an email sent on Thursday night by BMSD Superintendent David Helsel, the district received information about an online comment made by a student that "was interpreted as a threat of a school shooting."
Although the comment did not specifically mention a shooting, Helsel stated that the student responsible for the post "will not be in school" on Friday.
Helsel stated that other posts linked "Skylar White" to the threat. However, White is a character from the TV show "Breaking Bad," and no student within the BMSD has that name.
District administrators did not believe that there was any danger to the safety of Blue Mountain High School students.
As a precaution, armed security officers were asked to be on high alert. They also said that they would be addressing the situation to ensure the safety of their students.

We have been notified about multiple posts on the internet regarding a school shooting tomorrow.
There was a situation with a student at the high school today where a student made a comment that was interpreted as a threat of a school shooting.
The comment did not specifically say that a school shooting was going to occur. This situation is being addressed. The student will not be in school tomorrow.
The post on the internet says that a student named Skylar White made the threat. Skylar White is a character on the TV show Breaking Bad and not a student at BMSD. This issue is being addressed.
Rest assured we are addressing the situation to ensure the safety of our students. Our armed security officers will be on high alert as a precaution.
