Fiery crash involving two tractor-trailers on Northeast Extension of Turnpike causes major traffic delays Tuesday

LEHIGH COUNTY, Pa. - Update - I-476 is now fully open, according to emergency dispatchers.


A fiery crash involving two tractor-trailers on the Northeast Extension has had a section of the highway near Emmaus in Lehigh County closed on Tuesday.


Multiple lanes are blocked on I-476 North, according to 511pa.com


As of 4:24 p.m., at least one lane opened on the northbound lanes, according to 69 News.


The turnpike was closed at the Quakertown exit.

Drivers were advised to expect delays. 


The woman told WFMZ she heard about 12 explosions. Other eyewitnesses at the scene said it sounded like a huge explosion that just kept popping.


According to WFMZ, the flames appeared to be close to a neighborhood bordering the Turnpike. They also say there is no word on if anyone was injured in the crash.
