First heat-related death of the year reported in Lehigh County

Lehigh County reported its first heat-related death of the year.


According to authorities, a 93-year-old woman was pronounced dead in her Upper Macungie Township home on Thursday, July 18 at 11:24 am.


According to the Lehigh County coroner, she was exposed to severe heat conditions within her residence. The cause of death was due to hyperthermia and her death was ruled an accident, according to the coroner.

Temperatures this week were in the mid-90s.


Please always remember to check on others (especially the elderly) during times of extreme heat and keep an eye on pets.
