WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. -

A trooper was injured in a crash involving a fleeing driver in Lehigh County late Tuesday evening, according to press release.

It took place shortly before 11 p.m. on Route 22, according to state police..

A trooper attempted to pull over a Honda Accord for reckless driving on Route 22 West in Hanover Township, according to police.

The driver of the Accord lost control on a sharp curve while attempting to exit Fullerton Avenue, police say. The road was wet at the time, according to police.

The Honda Accord drove off the road, collided with a light pole and an embankment, and came to rest on its side. The car was partially blocking the Fullerton Ave. on-ramp and the right lane of Route 22.

The trooper was trying to arrest the driver when a tractor-trailer in the right lane of US 22 West hit the overturned car, causing it to spin and hit the trooper — who was out of his car when it was hit by the overturned Accord.

The trooper and the Accord driver, whose name was not released, suffered minor injuries, according to police.

The driver was taken into custody and charged with fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, and was booked on $5,000 unsecured bail.
