Former President Bill Clinton was hospitalized Monday afternoon at a Washington, DC medical center after he came down with a fever.
His deputy chief of staff Angel Ureña wrote in an X post, “President Clinton was admitted to MedStar Georgetown University Hospital this afternoon for testing and observation after developing a fever.”
“He remains in good spirits and deeply appreciates the excellent care he is receiving.”
A source told the New York Post, Clinton is said to be doing fine and was suspected of suffering from dehydration. He is also expected to be released from the hospital as soon as Tuesday.
Ureña told CNN that Clinton hoping to be back home by Christmas.
A source close to the ex-president told NBC News the situation is “not urgent” and that he is “awake and alert.”
Clinton has faced other health problems since leaving the Oval Office in January 2001 after serving two terms as commander in chief.
In 2021, he landed in a California hospital after a urinary tract infection spread to his bloodstream. He was released about a week after he checked in for treatment.
In 2004, he underwent a successful quadruple heart bypass surgery that was described as a “relatively routine” four-hour procedure at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University.
Six years later he was taken to the same Manhattan hospital where surgeons inserted two stents into a clogged artery, according to doctors at that time.
Clinton, spouse of former Secretary of State and previous presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, campaigned this fall in support of Vice President Kamala Harris during her unsuccessful presidential bid.
