George Rivera is running for a four-year term on the Parkland School District  Board of School Directors. There is also a petition signing event this Saturday.

A little bit about George Rivera:

George grew up in Connecticut and spent some time in New York State, New Jersey, and Long Island before taking residence in Pennsylvania in 2012.

He's known his lovely wife Shannon since 2004 and has been married since 2011. Their oldest child, Cameron, is 17 years old and was recently enrolled in Parkland High School as a junior. They have two other children: Mason (10) and Eva (7).

George has the experience necessary to be on the Parkland School District Board of Directors:

George Rivera has been a restaurant manager for over 20 years and is extremely proud of the knowledge and skills he accrued while working his way up from a dishwasher to his current position as a Managing Partner.

Rivera's expertise in driving profitable sales growth will be crucial in preventing Parkland from continuing to experience multi-million dollar budget deficits.

Rivera says, "Like most people in Lehigh County, I am highly concerned with the consistent mismanagement of our tax dollars year over year by our elected officials that promise us big ideas but not big tax cuts."

"When you dive into some of the unpaid elected local positions, you see a lot of bravado and gimmicks invested into getting elected". "These folks tend to not bring real-world experience into the positions they are elected to, therefore we are stuck with these individuals in these positions that don’t understand the responsibility of managing millions of dollars year after year".

Rivera expressed concern about being in a school district where our school taxes keep increasing against our wishes, while test scores continue to decline.

He said, "When elected, I plan on applying the discernment necessary to lead our district forward without relying on huge tax increases."

Rivera said that the district includes a significant number of retirees, as well as individuals who haven't retired yet but whose children long graduated from Parkland High School. These individuals have contributed their fair share to school taxes and should be considered when making decisions about raising our school tax.

He also said that there are people in South Whitehall, where he lives, who are highly displeased with the preliminary discussions of another tax increase for 2025.  They have young children in the district and are concerned about the direction we are going.

Rivera says it’s great that we invested a fair amount of tax dollars into the future of our district with the recent feasibility study, but the main question most parents have is what measures will be implemented to address the recent decline in PSSA results.

He said you can still be proud of where you live and still work towards improving and getting better year after year.

Rivera asks that you consider him to represent you on the Parkland School Board and wishes you a blessed 2025.
