Great Horned Owl rescued from manure pit and now recovering at Raven Ridge Wildlife Center

Washington Boro, PA

A great horned owl was rescued by a state game warden on July 18 after being stuck in a manure pit for two days.

Stinky, as the owl was nicknamed had a red and injured eye and was taken to the Raven Ridge Wildlife Center in Lancaster County.

The owl is now recovering after a BB was removed from the injured eye. Thankfully, there is no permanent damage to the eye.

The wildlife center said shooting a great horned owl is a federal offense, as it's a protected species.

At first, the owl had to be tube fed. It was also bathed several times, given medications, and taken to a veterinarian for X-rays.

Stinky is expected to be released by the fall.
