Heat advisory in effect for much of region, potential for strong thunderstorms late in day

A heat advisory remains in effect from 11 am to 8 pm Wednesday for portions of northern Delaware, central, northern, northwest, and southern New Jersey as well as east central and southeast Pennsylvania.


Some schools in Reading are even dismissing early due to the forecasted heat advisory, according to WFMZ News.


The following are the dismissal times -


Central and Southern Middle Schools - 11:30 a.m.

Reading High School and Red Knight Accelerated Academies at CityLine, Glenside and Thomas Ford:

Students (non-CTC) will be dismissed at 10:30 a.m.

Special needs students who take specialized transportation will dismiss at 10:00 a.m.

AMCTC - will dismiss at 10:00 a.m. to return to RHS for lunch

PMCTC - there will be NO PM CTC

RKAA Glenside, Thomas Ford and CityLine will dismiss at 1:00 p.m.

AMCTC students at CityLine will attend CTC

PMCTC students will NOT attend CTC


District officials say lunch will be served to all students before dismissal.

In addition to the heat on Wednesday, there is a potential for strong to severe thunderstorms late into the afternoon and evening hours.

Stay safe -


Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.


Take frequent rest breaks if you are doing outdoor work. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments.


Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Make sure to call 911.
