Six people have died after a helicopter crashed into the Hudson River in NYC Thursday afternoon: AP source says

WGOLV.COM - Update - A helicopter carrying a family of tourists from Spain crashed into the Hudson River Thursday afternoon, killing all six passengers on board, according to fire officials and sources.


According to sources, all six people on board were killed, which included two adults, three children, and the pilot.


Update - Six people have died in a helicopter crash in the Hudson River in New York City, according to an Associated Press source.


Update - At least one person is dead after a helicopter crashed into the Hudson River in NYC Thursday.


The helicopter is now floating on the New Jersey border of the Hudson River near the vents to the Holland Tunnel near Jersey City, according to officials. 


Witnesses say they saw the chopper “split in half” before it went down.


It remains unclear what caused the crash and how many people were on board.


Police are warning people of traffic delays surrounding the area.

According to the New York Post, rescue efforts are underway after the chopper went down near Pier 40 on West Houston Street and West Street at around 3:15 p.m.

Witnesses described a “loud thumping noise” when the helicopter crashed, with what appeared to be a broken propeller.


According to officials, FDNY Land Marine units are on scene performing rescue operations.


The NYPD posted about the crash on X, confirming what some social media posts had captured on video.


It's not immediately clear if there were any casualties, according to officials.
