James Earl Jones, known for the voice of the 'Star Wars' character Darth Vader, passed away at his residence in Dutchess County, NY, on Monday, September 9, at the age of 93. His death was confirmed by his representatives at Independent Artist Group to Deadline.
Throughout his life, Jones received numerous awards, achieving the rare EGOT distinction by winning Emmy, Grammy, and Tony Awards (including the 2017 Tony for Lifetime Achievement) and receiving an honorary Oscar in 2011.
He was born on January 17, 1931, in Arkabutla, Mississippi.
Jones' distinctive deep voice was also featured in various animated films, including portraying Mufasa in Disney's 1994 hit "The Lion King," Voice Box in 2005's "Robots," and The Giant in the 2009 adaptation of "Jack and the Beanstalk."

In 1993, he portrayed Mr. Mertle in the film "The Sandlot," a former baseball player who owned the famous Hercules and Goliath. In the 2018 drama "Warning Shot," he played the role of Pendleton. Additionally, he starred as King Jaffe Joffer in the 1998 hit movie "Coming to America."
In the 1990s, Jones was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, a discovery he described as "quite accidental" during an episode of the Rachael Ray Show in 2016.
Upon learning about his condition, it was all about getting help from his family and doctors.
He initiated the "I Can Imagine" campaign to assist individuals in managing their diabetes.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and loved ones.
