Lehigh University students wait hours to cast ballots on Tuesday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - In Northampton County, some people were waiting many hours in line to cast their ballot.

According to WFMZ, Lehigh University students waiting to vote at the Banana Factory stood for more than five hours to cast their ballots.

The long lines became even longer when one of the voting machines there went down Tuesday morning.

Northampton County officials told WFMZ they're seeing an unprecedented number of people coming out to vote. Many also turned out in other areas. I stopped out at a few polling places this afternoon.

Lehigh student Amelia Chandless told WFMZ, "I honestly didn't expect the line to be this long." "I got a bunch of snacks and all my homework and I've been eyeing this chair all semester that's been sitting by a trash can and it's been great."

Student Mia Hovey got chairs delivered to her spot in line, according to WFMZ News.

Hovey told WFMZ, "We were actually just standing and someone told us it would take four hours so we Uber Eats the chairs from Lowes."

From bringing chairs to passing the time with arts and crafts, Anna Buntrock and her friends were making friendship bracelets and necklaces.

Ellie Lo waited more than five hours to cast her ballot for the first time, according to WFMZ.

WFMZ reported that county officials quickly replaced the voting machine that went down and due to the overwhelming voter turnout, they added a fourth machine.

As of 7 p.m. lines were still wrapping around the Banana Factory, according to the news report.

Some celebrities even stopped by to keep students entertained.

WFMZ reported that Jonathan Groff and Wanda Sykes made guest appearances.
