Man shoots, kills his wife, self in Upper Saucon Twp. home Thursday morning

U. SAUCON TWP., Pa. - A man shot and killed his wife, then killed himself at a home in Upper Saucon Township Thursday, according to a news release from the Lehigh County Coroner's Office.


The incident took place at approximately 10:17 am, according to the coroner's office.


The Upper Saucon Township Police Department was dispatched to the 2300 block of Taylor Drive following after a call was made to 911, according to a news release from the Lehigh County District Attorney's Office.



Responding officers found the residents each deceased from apparent gunshot wounds, according to the DA's office.


The coroner's office ruled Roy Theodore Knieriem's death a suicide, and Helen Knieriem's death a homicide, according to the news release.


Both Roy Theodore Knieriem and his wife, Helen were 76 years of age, according to the coroner's report.


The DA's office says there were no other people present at the home, no witnesses known to police, and no additional injuries.


"Investigators are confident that there is not a current threat to the community related to this incident," the DA's office says.


The investigation includes Upper Saucon Township Police Department, the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office, the Lehigh County Homicide Task Force, and the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office.
