National Weather Service issues flash flood warning for parts of New Jersey and Northampton County

The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued a flash flood warning for West Central Hunterdon County in northwestern New Jersey, Southwestern Warren County in northwestern New Jersey, and Southeastern Northampton County in eastern Pennsylvania until 1:00 am.


At 8:55 pm, doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area, according to the weather service. Between 2 and 2.5 inches of rain have fallen.


Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly, according to the weather service.



HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

SOURCE...Radar.

IMPACT...Flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses as well as other drainage and low lying areas.


Some locations that may experience flash flooding include... Easton, Alpha, Bloomsbury and Phillipsburg. This includes Interstate 78 in New Jersey between mile markers 0 and 7.


PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Turn around...don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
