Update: All nine youth who escaped juvenile detention center in Berks County taken into custody

Update:


All nine of the youth who escaped from the juvenile detention center have been taken into custody, state police said Monday morning. All will be charged with escape, according to the Pennsylvania State Police.


As of 5:47 a.m. Monday, four of the nine juveniles were taken into custody on Oak Grove Road in Morgantown around 50 miles west of Philadelphia, according to authorities.

Junveiles overtook two female staff members at the prison to steal keys to the door, according to Trooper David Beohm of the Pennsylvania State Police. One of the staff members suffered minor injuries, Trooper Beohm confirmed.


Robeson Township Police Department confirmed in a Fcaebook past that there was a sighting of at least 3 escapees in the area of Estate Road and Weaver Road. The involved broke into at least 2 cars



Earlier this evening, there was a riot that began shortly after 8 pm at Abraxas Academy, a Youth Detention Center located at 1000 Academy Drive on the Berks and Chester County border.


Multiple police departments and EMS Units from Berks and Chester Counties have responded to the riot and mass escape. State and local law enforcement were able to take back control of the detention center.


Nine male juveniles are confirmed to have escaped the juvenile detention center and are on the run, according to police.


Police units are staged throughout the I-176 area at multiple points and have requested air support and dogs to the scene.


The escapees were last seen wearing white and gray shirts and gray shorts with gray sweatpants. They were last seen traveling on I-176.


Police have asked that any individuals who have information or encounter an escaped resident call 911 immediately.
