Northern Lights may once again be visible to those in Pennsylvania

Did you miss seeing the Northern Lights last time they were visible in the Lehigh Valley? This might be your opportunity.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, or NOAA, Space Weather Prediction Center in Boulder, Colo., the Aurora borealis may be visible again over some northern and upper Midwest states from New York to Idaho on Friday night into Saturday.

The Aurora Borealis is what many refer to as the northern lights and is a stunning natural phenomenon.

This prediction is based on the occurrence of a moderate geomagnetic solar storm, specifically a coronal mass ejection, which is expected to impact the Earth.

Although the previous solar flare on May 10 allowed many in northern Pennsylvania (including the Lehigh Valley area) to witness the lights, cloud coverage in southeastern Pennsylvania hindered visibility. Some also missed the opportunity to see them.

Thankfully, the National Weather Service as well as WGOLV meteorologist, Bobby Martrich has forecasted clear skies for tonight in the Lehigh Valley.

New Jersey, and encompassing counties such as Berks, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery in Pennsylvania, and Mercer County in New Jersey are also expected to have clear skies.

The best areas to try to see the aurora are in areas with very little to no street lights or light pollution, and with a clear view of the northern sky, like on a hill or mountaintop.
