Person dies after being hit by pickup truck while walking on sidewalk in Hackettstown Wednesday

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. - A person is dead after being hit by a pickup truck while he was walking on the sidewalk in Warren County, New Jersey on Wednesday.


At approximately 10:52 a.m., the Hackettstown Police and Hackettstown First Aid and Rescue Squad responded to a report of a struck pedestrian in front of the CVS Pharmacy (85 Main Street).


A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2018 GMC Canyon, driven by a 61-year-old man from Flanders, NJ, was traveling westbound on Route 46 when the vehicle veered off the roadway and struck a pedestrian who was walking on the sidewalk, according to the press release.



The pedestrian was transported to Hackettstown Medical Center, where they were later pronounced deceased.


The victim's identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.


The driver was also transported to Hackettstown Medical Center for a medical evaluation.

The crash remains under investigation.


Route 46 was closed between West Stiger Street and Valentine Street for the investigation.

Assisting at the scene were the Hackettstown Detective Bureau, Warren County Prosecutor’s Office, Independence Township First Aid Squad, Saint Clare’s Paramedics, and the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
