Plane carrying 62 people crashes in Brazil's Sao Paulo state

A plane carrying 62 people crashed in a fiery wreck within a residential zone of a city in Brazil's Sao Paulo state on Friday, as reported by the airline. The extent of injuries and fatalities was not immediately known.


VoePass airline confirmed that a plane en route to Sao Paulo's Guarulhos International Airport went down with 58 passengers and 4 crew members.




The cause of the crash was not disclosed in the statement.


Firefighters verified that the aircraft went down in Vinhedo city but did not provide further specifics. Rescue teams were being sent to the crash site.


GloboNews, a Brazilian television network, aired images of a significant blaze and smoke emanating from an apparent plane wreckage in a residential area filled with houses.


Additional footage on GloboNews depicted the aircraft descending vertically, spiraling as it plummeted.


At an event in southern Brazil, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva requested the audience to rise and observe a moment of silence.
