Police in Palmer Township warn drivers and residents of natural gas leak investigation, evacuation in progress

PALMER TWP., Pa. - UPDATE: WILLIAM PENN HWY**BOTH TRAVEL LANES REOPENED with the assistance of flaggers. EVACUATION & SHELTER IN PLACE LIFTED


According to Palmer Township Police, residents / businesses can resume as normal.


UGI Utilities are still on the scene.


Continue to allow time for possible travel delays.


 

Police in Palmer Township are warning drivers and residents that there is a natural gas leak investigation.


Officials say that there is a road closure effective immediately.


Both travel lanes on William Penn Highway are closed from Stones Crossing Road to Sheridan Drive, according to police.



An evacuation is currently in process... 350 feet all directions from the William Penn Hwy / Edamy Street intersection, according to police. 


Police ask you to please stay away from this area and surrounding streets and use another route.


Allow for extra travel time during the incident.


Emergency services & UGI Utilities are currently on the scene.


A Facebook post on the Marblehead Chowder House PA says the business in closed because of the investigation.
