Police increase presence at several Lehigh County school districts due to unspecified threats

LEHIGH COUNTY, Pa - Police in the Lehigh Valley are increasing their presence at several school districts following reports of unspecified threats.

Districts that are on high alert include Nazareth, Northampton, East Penn, and Northwestern Lehigh.

In a message sent to parents of the Nazareth Area School District, Superintendent Dr. Isabel Resende says, "Nazareth Area High School, along with several other schools in the Lehigh Valley, received notice of a social media post warning of a school shooting. The high school administration, district administration, Nazareth Area School District Police Department, and Upper Nazareth Police Department immediately began an investigation."

Resende says that through consultation with multiple agencies, the district is able to confirm that there are no credible active threats to any of the districts schools or facilities.

School police officers and Upper Nazareth police will continue to have an increased presence throughout the school day Friday, according to a report by WFMZ News.

Easton Area School District also received a similar threat according to a post on an Easton Facebook group.

According to Trooper Nathan Branosky of the Pennsylvania State Police, unspecified threats were made today at Northwestern Lehigh and East Penn School District.  As a result, PSP increased its presence at schools through its coverage area in Troop M.
