Police respond to shooting in Downtown Allentown after gunshots ring out Sunday evening

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - There were reports of multiple people injured as gunshots rang out in Downtown Allentown Sunday evening.


Law enforcement officers taped off a large parking lot in the 100 block of North Seventh Street, near the intersection of Linden Street, less than a block away from the PPL Center, according to WFMZ News.


The Lehigh County district attorney says that the shooting involved multiple people, but he did not have information on the number of people shot or potential suspects.

Allentown Mayor Matt Tuerk released a statement on social media around 8:30 p.m.


Mayor Tuerk said his office is aware of a "shooting incident." He also said the investigation is active and police are processing the scene.


Message from Mayor Tuerk regarding a shooting incident in downtown Allentown:


The Mayor’s Office is aware of a shooting incident in the 100 block of N. 7th St.


The investigation is currently active, and police are processing the scene. The Allentown Police Department took quick, decisive action and there is no ongoing danger to the public. APD will share additional information as it becomes available.”



According to a 69 News video, at least two people were taken away on stretchers, but according to the DA, there were no fatalities.


Allentown police, the DA's office, and Lehigh County detectives are all involved in the investigation.


The mayor's office says the police department will release more information as it becomes available.


The district attorney anticipates that officers will be able to remove cars from the taped-off parking lot around 8 a.m. on Monday.
