The recalled dog food was sold in 176 stores, according to CBS News.
The FDA stated, "The potential presence of loose metal pieces in the bag could pose a health hazard to pets."
Pet owners are advised to monitor their pets for unusual behavior if they believe their pet has consumed the affected product and to contact a veterinarian if they have any concerns.
The FDA noted that there have been no reports of injury or illness to any pets related to this recall at the time of the announcement.
Mars Petcare US, the parent company of Pedigree, can be reached at 1-800-525-5273 for customers to initiate returns.
Thankfully, there has been no reports of dogs being injured by the loose metal.
