Residents report drone crash in New Jersey, investigation underway

HILLSBOROUGH, N.J. - Authorities gathered in Hillsborough, New Jersey, on Friday after a reported incident potentially involving a drone, according to a news report by FOX 5 New York.

Several people who talked to FOX 5's Stephanie Bertini said they heard a drone crash overnight in the area. FOX 5 says they are continuing to work to get that report confirmed by officials.

One resident, who claims she heard a crash, told FOX 5 NY that her concerns are growing and called the mysterious events "bizarre." She's seen several "drones" flying near her home, just a few blocks away from the investigation.

Rep. Jeff Van Drew is providing new details regarding Iran's 'drone ships' shortly after proposing that one of these vessels might be positioned off the coast of the United States and could be responsible for recent drone sightings.

In the meantime, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy requested more federal resources to get to the bottom of the recent drone sightings in a letter to President Joe Biden, according to Fox 29.

Murphy posted a copy of the letter on social media Friday, saying that state and local officials are ‘hamstrung’ by existing laws in their efforts to counteract unmanned aircraft systems (UAS).

Murphy wrote, "The proliferation of this technology has introduced additional risks to public safety, privacy, and homeland security, while state and local law enforcement entities remain hamstrung by existing laws and policies to successfully counteract them, leaving action around UAS squarely on the shoulders of the federal government."

"New Jersey residents deserve more concrete information about these UAS sightings and what is causing them," he added. "The continued reporting of UAS activity has raised more questions than answers and prompted an outcropping of conspiracy theories across social media and other platforms."

On Thursday, the White House addressed the recent sightings, claiming that many ‘drone sightings’ were actually lawfully operated manned aircraft.

John Kirby, the White House National Security Communications Advisor, stated that there is no evidence suggesting the reported drone sightings threaten national security or public safety.
