Route 22 reopens after 'serious police incident' in South Whitehall Township Monday

S. WHITEHALL TWP., Pa. - A stretch of highway in Lehigh County reopened Monday afternoon following a crash.


Route 22 westbound at Route 309 in South Whitehall Township was closed following a "serious police incident," according to Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Nathan Branosky.


Lehigh County dispatchers also reported the accident earlier today. We also reported it on our Facebook page of What's going on in the Lehigh Valley.

According to Lehigh County dispatchers, a male sustained injuries due to an accident near the turnpike as a result of a police pursuit. According to dispatchers, he was suicidal.


The man was transported to the trauma center due to injuries sustained when he was ejected from his car, according to the report. The car then caught fire, according to dispatchers.


According to Lehigh County dispatchers, he also sustained stab wounds. This has not been confirmed.


More information will follow once it is received from the state police on Tuesday.
