At 837 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Jordan Valley, or 9 miles south of Lehighton, moving northeast at 35 mph, according to the National Weather Service. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts. Remain alert for a possible tornado! Tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado go at once into the basement or small central room in a sturdy structure. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Frequent cloud-to-ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature`s leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.
The National Weather Service also warned to remain alert for any possible tornadoes.
A Tornado Warning was issued for Northern Lancaster County until 9:00 pm.
Just before 8 p.m., the National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for parts of Schuylkill County. According to that warning, a “confirmed tornado” near Mahanoy City was reported by local emergency management officials.
If you are under a tornado warning, damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely.
