According to the National Weather Service, dangerous thunderstorms may occur in the Lehigh Valley this afternoon.
A severe thunderstorm watch is now in effect for parts of Delaware, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania until 7 pm. The watch may be expanded to other counties, according to the weather service.
Storms will develop and organize during this afternoon and will progress from west to east through the evening. Damaging winds & hail are the primary threats, according to the NWS.
Most of Northampton County is under an enhanced risk for severe thunderstorms; an enhanced risk means “numerous severe storms” are possible, according to the National Weather Service.
As of 3:00 pm, severe thunderstorms were issued for the following locations:
Southwestern Morris County in northern New Jersey... Southern Sussex County in northwestern New Jersey... Central Warren County in northwestern New Jersey... Central Monroe County in northeastern Pennsylvania... Northeastern Northampton County in eastern Pennsylvania...
Until 300 PM EDT. At 209 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located over Stormville, or 11 miles southeast of Mount Pocono, moving east at 30 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and penny size hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Damage to roofs, siding, trees, and power lines is possible. Locations impacted include... Hopatcong, East Stroudsburg, Hackettstown, Blairstown, Bangor, Stanhope, Netcong, Belvidere, Oxford, Hope, East Bangor, Stormville, Brodheadsville, Greendell, Delaware Water Gap, Tannersville, Long Valley, Great Meadows-Vienna, Allamuchy-Panther Valley, and Reeders. This includes the following highways... Interstate 80 in Pennsylvania between mile markers 300 and 314. Interstate 80 in New Jersey between mile markers 0 and 27.
