BETHLEHEM, Pa - As a way of reducing alcohol and drug-related fatal and serious crashes, state police in Bethlehem have announced an upcoming DUI checkpoint.
According to a press release, the Driving Under the Influence (DUI) checkpoint will be conducted in Northampton County between Friday, August 9, 2024, and Sunday, August 11, 2024.
During a sobriety checkpoint, Troopers will systematically stop vehicles at selected locations to observe drivers for signs of alcohol or drug impairment.
This checkpoint is part of S.T.E.A.D.D. (Selective Traffic Enforcement Against Drunk Drivers) initiative, aimed at reducing alcohol and drug-related fatal and serious crashes. The Pennsylvania State Police is dedicated to ensuring a safe environment for all drivers. The sobriety checkpoint is intended to support this goal.
Motorists are reminded of their obligations under Title 75 Section 3733, Fleeing or Attempting to Elude Police Officer. This law states that failing to stop when signaled by a police officer is a serious offense, which can result in a felony charge with a maximum sentence of 7 years in prison, a $15,000 fine, and restitution for damages and injuries sustained as a result of the pursuit.
