The Race Street Bridge in Catasaqua is Closed

The Race Street Bridge, which spans the Lehigh River between Whitehall Township and Catasauqua Borough, has been closed for replacement and repairs.

The bridge, which sees average daily traffic of 10,692 vehicles, will undergo work that includes removing and replacing the existing bridge deck and sidewalk, bridge beam repairs, and the installation of new signage and pavement markings.

The closure of the bridge will be in effect 24 hours a day until at least August 28, according to PennDOT.

The project is part of a larger rehabilitation effort for the bridge, which has a total cost of $6,123,926.

To manage traffic during the closure, a temporary traffic signal will be installed at the intersection of Race and Second Streets.

The Race Street Bridge, originally constructed in 1957, is a four-span bridge that stretches 386 feet in length.

Commuters are encouraged to use alternative routes to avoid long traffic delays.
