Senator Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) has been chosen by President-elect Donald Trump to be the secretary of state, according to the New York Post. This decision will mark the first time a Latino, specifically a Cuban American, will hold the position of the nation's chief diplomat.
The news of Rubio's appointment was initially disclosed by the New York Times on Monday.
At 53 years old, the Florida Republican has consistently raised concerns about the dangers posed by foreign adversaries such as China and Iran.
Rubio, who is the son of Cuban immigrants, has been representing Florida in the US Senate since 2011. He currently serves as the vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee and is a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
